What is cookieless analytics?

Cookieless analytics identifies a visitor with a first-party anonymous ID instead of a cookie, and no third-party tracker for a blocker to strip. In SourceTrack it is Cookieless Mode, a setting on paid plans; the standard tracker uses first-party localStorage. Either way, sessions join Stripe and Shopify revenue.

Traffic numbers are the easy part, and every tool has them. The useful question is which of those sessions turned into money — which is the join most analytics never makes.

FAQ

UTM and lead source tracking FAQ

How does cookieless web analytics track visitors without cookies or browser fingerprinting?

SourceTrack operates on a privacy-first, first-party visitor model using anonymous session tokens stored on your own domain. It never sets third-party cookies and never performs invasive browser fingerprinting. Cookieless Mode, available on paid plans, goes further and writes nothing to the device at all.

Can SourceTrack recover website traffic lost to ad blockers like uBlock Origin or Safari ITP?

Standard third-party analytics scripts like Google Analytics 4 (GA4) lose a share of visitor data to ad blockers and Apple Safari Intelligent Tracking Prevention (ITP). SourceTrack supports a first-party domain proxy (e.g. analytics.yourdomain.com), routing tracker execution through your own infrastructure, so sessions a third-party blocker would drop are recorded on your own domain instead. We do not publish a recovery percentage — it depends entirely on your visitors’ blockers.

How does AI search prompt attribution track referrals from ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity?

The referrer host is matched on arrival against 16 named assistants and answer engines — 23 hostnames in total, including two cases where only part of a domain is an assistant surface. A campaign parameter or an explicit source value is used instead when one is present. Whatever is matched stays attached to the visitor across later visits, so the assistant that began the journey is still creditable when the conversion lands weeks afterwards.

How does Stripe & Shopify revenue attribution connect to website analytics sessions?

Unlike basic pageview counters (Plausible, Umami), SourceTrack links first-party website sessions directly to Stripe and Shopify webhook transactions. When a customer pays or subscribes, the payment event is automatically stitched to the visitor’s original discovery journey, giving you exact revenue per traffic source.

Why do teams switch from Google Analytics 4 (GA4) or Plausible to SourceTrack?

GA4 is complex and requires cookies. Plausible and Umami are cookieless but only measure pageview counts without revenue or multi-touch models. SourceTrack gives you first-party privacy with an optional Cookieless Mode on paid plans, a first-party proxy that serves the tracker from your own subdomain, AI prompt attribution, and native revenue webhooks.

How does SourceTrack handle GDPR, CCPA and PECR?

By collecting less. It sets no third-party cookies, never stores a raw IP address, does not fingerprint, honours Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control, and offers Cookieless Mode — a paid-plan setting that writes nothing to the visitor device. Compliance itself depends on your deployment and your agreements, which is why the DPA and subprocessor list are published rather than a label claimed on your behalf.

Can I keep Google Analytics as well?

Yes, and most teams do. Keep it for traffic volume; this answers the question it was never built for, which is which channel produced revenue.

Is my visitors’ IP stored?

No. Enrichment happens without retaining the raw address.

Attribute every deal back to the click, prompt, or ad that earned it.

SourceTrack connects your forms, bookings, and payments to first-party session journeys — so your team sees the source behind each conversion with no third-party cookies and no broken UTM fields.
